In 2022, Clinton Hill’s Best Festival Will Be Bigger Than Ever Before

Since 2020, the Open Streets initiative has ensured that communities across New York City have been able to meet together safely outdoors. Now Clinton Hill is taking advantage of this project in a way that celebrates all that the neighborhood has to offer.

There’s always an interesting cultural event happening in Brooklyn. Clinton Hill’s food, art and tech festival, the Brooklyn Bazaar, is the perfect example of this. In 2022, it’s going to be better than ever, thanks to approval from New York City’s Department of Transportation to convert a city block in the heart of Clinton Hill into a venue for all that the Brooklyn Bazaar has to offer.

The specific block hosting the festival will be a part of Lexington Avenue, with Grand Avenue and Classon Avenue being the bordering cross streets. The block will be closed to non-emergency traffic from 12 pm to 8 pm on Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate the festival.

So what’s going to be happening at this festival? The Brooklyn Bazaar is still prepping the event. But by taking over a whole city block on weekends, the event is sure to be bigger and better than ever before. Musicians, painters, chefs and other kinds of creative people who reside in Clinton Hill are sure to fill the area, showcasing the very best of what they have to offer, whether that’s a song, a painting, a meal or something else.

The specific dates of the festival are still being worked out. But this news must be encouraging for anyone who lives in Clinton Hill. By allowing the festival to take over an entire block, the neighborhood is ensuring that a wider range of the community is going to enjoy what’s on offer.

In 2021, the Brooklyn Bazaar festival took the form of a number of interesting events, including a Halloween event on October 30th that included a flash mob dance of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, a Michael Jackson lookalike contest and DJ performances.

Lexington Avenue isn’t the only part of Clinton Hill to take advantage of the Open Streets initiative. Hall Street between Park Avenue and Myrtle Avenue has also taken the decision to participate, with vehicle access being restricted to local residents only from 9 am to 7 pm Monday to Sunday. This gives those who live on the block and those nearby the opportunity to enjoy the space on a daily basis.

Surely, in the future, many more blocks within Clinton Hill and other areas of New York City will make the decision to take part in the Open Streets initiative. The Open Streets initiative has already become a permanent fixture of New York City, with then Mayor Bill de Blasio signing legislation that did just this in 2021. So look out for more safe outdoor events in Clinton Hill. They’re sure to pop up in the years to come.
